A low-deflection cue is one that is designed to give minimal “squirt” (the term used to describe a cue ball’s deviation from the stick line.) This deviation is not caused by your stroke speed, but rather, by the end mass of the cue shaft and the shaft flex, as well as the accuracy with which you strike the center of the cue ball. Raid cues reduce the amount of deviation because their end mass is reduced and the shafts are more flexible. Lower end mass means that the cue will not push as hard against the side of a cue ball, thus not sending it as far off course. The benefits of low deflection are most apparent when you use side spin. When you use a low-deflection cue, you can improve your game dramatically, because you will experience improved accuracy, better consistency, enhanced cue ball control, and the ability to adjust your aim more easily.
